This free tool converts a PNG or JPG into a PSD file you can open and edit in Photoshop, GIMP, or Photopea. Your image lands on its own layer with transparency intact. Conversion happens on your device — the file is never uploaded to a server.

FAQ

Will the PSD have editable layers?

The converted PSD opens with your image on its own layer, with transparency intact. A flat image can't be split back into original design elements — no converter can do that. You can add layers, masks, and adjustments on top in any PSD editor.

How do I convert PNG to PSD without Photoshop?

Drop your PNG or JPG into the tool above. It builds a PSD file on your device and downloads it — no Photoshop, no account needed. To edit the result, open it in GIMP, Photopea, or Affinity Photo.

Is transparency preserved?

Yes. The alpha channel of your PNG carries over into the PSD layer, so transparent areas stay transparent when you open the file.

Does converting JPG to PSD improve image quality?

No. Conversion changes the file format, not the pixels. JPG compression artifacts stay in the PSD. What you gain is an editable format you can build on non-destructively.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion runs in your browser using your device's processor. The image is never sent anywhere — it works even if you disconnect from the internet after the page loads.

More conversions

PNG and JPG images are flat pixels. A PSD keeps your image on its own layer with transparency intact, so you can open it in Photoshop, GIMP, or Photopea and build on it instead of starting from a flat file.
